Bike MS: City to Shore Ride Communications Volunteers are essential to the safety of 7,000 cyclists on the road ride weekend. This vital group of volunteers is made up of a diverse group of men, women, and children who provide open lines of communication and a detail-oriented eye ensuring the safe travel of cyclists ride weekend. Although a HAM Radio Operators License is a requirement, there are positions available for all volunteers; those without a License are encouraged to register.
Communicator responsibilities include both stationary and mobile positions along the route each day. Stationary volunteers are positioned at identified key locations/intersections to ensure continuous radio communication coverage on-route, notify command central of additional support needs/requests and areas of concern. Mobile positions include roving radio communication coverage as part of the Support & Gear (SAG) team. Communicators can also be positioned at rest stops and within operational support areas.
Regardless of the assigned position, Communicators are a reliable group providing a high level of support along the route Ride Weekend. As a member of the 250+ route support volunteer team, you will be provided with all materials required to stay informed and tactically ready to ensure a safe ride.
