TEAM TANIA celebrates 10th anniversary

Aims to reach $1 million in fundraising

Team Tania 2007It all started in 1999 after Tania Kincaid of Breinigsville, PA was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Six family members and friends got together to ride in the team’s first City to Shore ride to raise money for the fight against MS.

Ten years later, the team includes over 400 cyclists and has set a fundraising goal of $175,000 this year—a number that would put it over the $1million mark for total money raised over the years.

Team Tania is the largest family and friends team participating in the more than 100 Bike MS rides that happen every year in the United States and has received numerous awards for its success in raising money and, equally as important, having fun.

“Team Tania has become an integral part of the City to Shore experience,” says John H. Scott, the president of the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National MS Society. “Everyone involved with the ride knows how much they love this event and how much they care about the cause.”

The Bike MS: City to Shore Ride, organized by the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National MS Society, has become one of the premiere bike tours on the East Coast. The funds raised make life easier for 11,000 people with multiple sclerosis and their families in 18 counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Cyclists can choose from five different routes, ranging from a one-day, 25-mile ride to the traditional two-day, 150-mile ride. Cyclists will begin the tour at several starting points in New Jersey on Saturday morning, Sept. 27, and ride to the Ocean City Civic Center. Following an overnight stay, the 150-mile cyclists return to Cherry Hill on Sunday, Sept. 28, for a festive finish line celebration.

About City to Shore

City to Shore attracts thousands of cyclists and more than 1,200 volunteers, and raises millions of dollars for the National MS Society. Named by Bicycling Magazine as the “Best Cycling Getaway in NJ,” riders enjoy the flat terrain of Southern New Jersey as they travel through the blueberry fields of Hammonton, the region’s pine barrens and into the sweet smells of salt water taffy and ocean air in historic Ocean City.

About the National Multiple Sclerosis Society

MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t. We do this through our home office and 50-state network of chapters by funding more MS research, providing more services to people with MS, offering more professional education and furthering more advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. The Society is dedicated to achieving a world free of MS. We are people who want to do something about MS, now. Join the movement at nationalMSsociety.org or by calling 1-800-FIGHT-MS.
